| My father Bill Schneider from Rochester NY was on the Electra. Dates unsure. I have many pics of many islands. Including Siapan and the island survivor was filmed on. Don\'t see him in the pics on the web site. Would like to know if any one remembers him. Like many others he never talked about the war. After his death we found a barrel in the attack with all his stuf. Thanks, Patrick Schneider, 3rd US Infantry, Arlington National Cemetary. | ||

| I was in the E&R Div. as an engine repairman on landing craft: stood watches in the engine room while underway. Made the Point Barrow trip that is mentioned by others. Also made the trip to the Prebiloff Islands. We layed over a few days in Seward, Alaska, the Captain granted libery. Will never forget the ice floes and the Coast Guard ice breakers. I saw, on the site, several names that I remembered. Would really enjoy hearing from some of my shipmates. In March of 1956 I was transfered to Coronado Amphib Base for the ballance of my time.rn | ||

| My Dad served during the Pacific campaign 1943-1945 and has many memories of his duty. He had numerous tasks on the Electa ( Boom operator to dispatch cargo into troop carriers, gunner at the front of the ship during impending attack and base duty of Coxswain to stir ship). Anyone that would like to communicate with \"Andy\" can do so through \"webmaster@usselectra.org\". | ||

| My father, Joe DeFiore served on the Electra when it was hit by a torpedo off the coast of Africa. He worked in the laundry and reported for general quarters in the morning with the rest of the crew. He told me he was with another seamen and saw a wiggling "fish" coming toward the ship. His buddy told him, "That is not a fish, it's a torpedo!" Seconds later the ship was hit. He was evacuated to another ship that rescued the crew, but was in Casablanca for six months while the ship was made seaworthy enought to get back to the states. He said the whole was secured by cables that were crossed in various patterns and when they encountered rough seas he feared for his life.rnMy father will be 88years old in November and just recently did he tell my siblings and myself this story. Amazing! We are thankful he came home to us.rnDoes anyone remember this incident the way my father does? | ||

| Mr. John G. "Johnny" O'Brien, who served on the Electra during WWII in the Pacific from 42-45, has been designated the Panhandle Producers & Royalty Owners Association fifth Living Legend.
