Austria / Germany

May, 2000

The name of the town is Stans, but to distinguish it from other towns of the same name, bei Schwaz (near Schwaz) is added.

Innsbrück, Austria

(My first visit to Innsbrück was in 1990 - see those pictures here)

Looking across the river Inn from Innsbrück (Inn's Bridge) Innsbruck main square, the Golden Roof in front:
It seems like there's a view of a tower down every narrow street!
Views from each side of an old arcaded building that has been the hostelry for visiting royalty, poets and musicians for over 500 years. Just a few examples: Emperor Maximilian (1494), Albrecht, Bavarian poet (1598), Marquesa Caponi, Envoy from Florence (1659), Emperor Josef II (1771), Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (1773), King Gustav of Sweden (1785), Wolfgang von Goethe (1786), King Ludwig II of Bavaria (1818), Nicolo Paginini (1828), Heinrich Heine, poet (1832), Maria von Trapp (1958), John Glenn, Astronaut (1969), Jean Paul Sartre (1972), Queen Juliane of Holland (1978)!
I climbed the 200 steps of the Stadtturm (City Tower) to take these views over Innsbruck:
