Tarxien, Santa Lucija and Naxxar, Malta
February/March 2004
Tarxien ("tar-SHEEN") might well be called the La Brea Tar Pits
of Malta -- 5,000 year old neolithic temple ruins are right in the middle of the town,
two blocks off the main street.

The Chinese Gardens of Serenity are located in the small town of
Santa Lucija. These beautiful grounds are open to the public
without admission. A brochure describes the path through the gardens in
terms of chinese philosophy. Each element of the gardens represents some
aspect of human life.

In the town of Naxxar ("NASH-ahr"), not far from Mosta,
is Palazzo Parisio, a 19th century stately home and gardens. Described
in brochures as a miniature Versailles, it may not meet that standard, but it is
certainly a lovely place.
